Back
in 1978 or so, things must have been a lot more lax in the world of
public safety as well as in the field of mental health. I mean, it
is definitely forward thinking of the Californian mental health
professionals to let the healing touch of music into their
facilities. But rather than give the inmates or patients acoustic
guitars or tambourines, why not fucking sock them in the face with
Lux Interior’s denim enclosed crotch. Or perhaps have Ivy conk them
on the head with her blistering ax. Ah, feel those neurosis melt
away as the Cramps belt out hit after glorious hit, like the
infamous “Human Fly” and “The Way I Walk”.
Shot in the same
black and white video they used for Bozo the Clown episodes, this is
one of the most fascinating and edgy shows ever filmed. The audience
has as much access to the stage as the band, even more if you
consider, they are unfettered by instrument cables or ethical
judgement. Also, everyone involved, band included, is probably so
high at the time of this show, that it can’t help but reach some
communal “Burning Man” kind of shit.
Someone somewhere must
have considered this a good idea back in the 70’s and it is only
fitting that people now give this prophet of culture some credit.
Target Video has recorded some of the most incredible performances
ever, probably by bands that most have never heard of or have
forgotten. But it is all still there, on faded black and white
video… so go out and buy it, you forgetful little punks.
Time for my medication…
