Iggy and the Stooges: Live in Detroit on DVD.
One of the greatest and most influential punk bands in history reunited
for an August, 2003 gig in Detroit, and this 60-minute DVD captures it all
with glorious sound. Iggy Pop and the Stooges play classics like "Dirt,"
"Loose" and "I Wanna Be Your Dog," though they somehow avoid their amazing
1971 Raw Power album altogether. (I mean, what's a Stooges concert
without "Search and Destroy"?) Unfortunately, Iggy is in a seriously
obnoxious mood during the show and keeps shouting and repeating inane
things at the crowd. It's so annoying that even die-hard fans will
probably only make it through one viewing.
On the plus side, the disc comes with a bonus 50-minute in-store
appearance by the same band, and despite the static camera angle, it's
loads better. Iggy is in much better form, telling stories and jokes, and
the songs sound just as good, if not better, in the smaller venue.
Other extras include Mike Watt's journal, "sing-a-long" versions, a
photo gallery, and a CREEM magazine archive. |
